Forest Department

Area: Approximately 36% of the total sovereign ©Squamish / Skwxwú7mesh™ Lands are forested, consisting of conifer-dominated temperate rain forests and transitional interior forest. Species include Douglas fir, red cedar, hemlock, balsam, yellow cedar, pine, spruce, alder and cottonwood. In 2007, a total of 750,000 m³ of allowable annual cut (AAC) was taken from the Sovereign ©Squamish / Skwxwú7mesh™ Lands. Not one penny was distributed fairly to the original ©Squamish / Skwxwú7mesh™ people as INAC makes sure revenue sharing is not mentioned or dealt with the true landlords in any contract produced by their lawyers.

Siyam Kiapilanoq/CAPILANO™ wants to implement strong reforestation legislation for the forest industry. For every tree removed, 3 are planted to sustain Earth breath and vitality, as trees work hard to eliminate the pollution. Natural tree seed selection is part of the eco-friendly environmental mission.

Green It with no taxes! Proposed solutions is to have existing Municipalities focus on growing community gardens where ever there is a patch of greenery and/or on roof tops of apartments. That the municipalities will support tree growth by paying $100 for each tree planted on the land by home owners who have the space to accommodate the growth of fruit or large trees. That the municipalities will impose fines for each tree that is cut down for cosmetic reasons. That each municipality will employ an arborist with assistants to ensure that the health of the trees are looked after and that any potential liabilities of trees are kept in check.

©Squamish / Skwxwú7mesh™ Government Transport and Highway department are responsible for working with municipalities in planting diverse trees at every round-a-bout, connectors, throughout every gated sub-division and shopping malls. Municipalities and department must maintain the tree population by removal of old or dying trees in order to avoid potential liability issues.

There are wonderful employment opportunities with the Forests and Transport / Highway departments. Please email further interest and suggestions or employment opportunities please refer to the Employment tab for contact details.
